Will Launch India help me learn Hindi, understand Urdu, speak Punjabi, grow in Telugu?

Mary

In 2024, Launch India served over 100 language learners through our in person and online GPA sessions for Urdu, Hindi, Telugu, Punjabi and Marathi. We call these language learners "Growing Participators" (or "GPs" for short) as they are using the Growing Participator Approach (GPA) with us to learn and grow in these South Asian languages and cultures and become one who can participate more and more in a cross-cultural setting using their target language and customs.

Check out these GP Testimonials from some of Launch India's learners in 2024:

  • Launch India's GPA teaching style has been very effective and has allowed me to quickly progress in both my comprehension and speaking ability. I'm excited to be progressing so quickly.

  • Launch India maintains a professional but fun environment that makes learning language enjoyable and easy.

  • Launch India uses a systematic methodology in teaching the Hindi language. I didn’t expect to actually enjoy the lessons but they were presented in an engaging and fun way!

  • I was really nervous to begin language lessons over Zoom, but after just a couple of weeks I’m really impressed and encouraged by how innovative Launch India has been in creating ways to teach interactively online.

  • The culture and approach of Launch India fosters an environment safe for learning and exploring South Asian languages. I have been consistently met with patience, kindness, and grace as I learn new words and phrases!

  • This program is not only engaging and interactive, but also effective and fun! I have been afraid of failing to learn language, but this course is giving me hope and confidence that I can learn, and will learn.

Launch India GPs are not only making great progress in language learning, but they are also building authentic relationships with our Nurturers (native speakers of the languages we offer who teach our GPA sessions online and in person). Launch India would not exist without our language learners and we are so thankful for each one of them!

What were GP Language Preferences in 2024 through Launch India?

Launch India makes a distinction between our Hindi and our Urdu language sessions even though Hindi and Urdu are mixed languages. When our GPs register to start taking language sessions with us, we ask them which language they prefer to learn. Based on the preference indicated, we begin to schedule language sessions with a Nurturer whose native language and associated culture match the GP preference. In 2024, most of our clients preferred Hindi sessions followed by some who desire to know and be fluent in a mix of Hindi and Urdu language and culture. Launch India's original parent company was founded solely as an Urdu school, and Urdu still makes up the third largest preference of the GPs learning with us. We have had a handful of learners taking Punjabi with us in 2024, and one GP for Marathi and one for Telugu.

We are always happy to consider offering GPA sessions for other South Asian languages based on client interest. Being based in Delhi where there are native speakers from many places, and having developed many resources for training Nurturers in the GPA method, Launch India is uniquely positioned to help in this way. We also have access to networks who know about where GPA centers already exist for other languages and cultures and are happy to refer you to those already established programs!

From where in the world did GPs take sessions through Launch India in 2024?

Most of our GPs took sessions from within Delhi. This includes mostly our in-person GPs as well as some who live in Delhi but prefer to avoid the traffic and still elect to take classes from home using our online options. The next largest sector are GPs taking sessions online with Launch India from the US. All of these GPs in the US in 2024 chose to wake up early in their US time zone to take class in the late afternoon or evening in India. Thirdly, we have about 25% of GPs who live in other parts of India and take sessions with us online. And finally, we have had a few GPs who find us from other parts of the globe, primarily Europe and other parts of Asia.

How did GPs take sessions with Launch India- Online or In Person?

In 2024, about 64% of our GPs elected to take sessions with Launch India through our online option. About 36% of our GPs in 2024 came to our in person center in Delhi for face to face learning. Many of those 36% also elected to stay for some time in our partner business accommodations options- fully furnished flats that make it easy for you to find housing for a short or long period of time so you can land and just jump into focusing on growing towards your language and culture goals in your target language!

Check out this blog for more information on how we have put our GPA sessions for Phases 1-5 fully online for Hindi, Urdu, Punjabi, Telugu and Marathi.

In which GPA phase did GPs start their language sessions through Launch India?

As you can see above, almost all of our clients in 2024 started learning with us through our Phase 1 program. GPA for Phase 1 whether in person or online is a fun way to grow a working vocabulary of over 1000 words in 100 hours. It is visual, interactive, playful and covers both vocabulary and basic grammar concepts. It is meant to be a foundation from which the rest of your language learning can continue. If GPs are able to do full time language learning (4 hours/day, 5 days/week), Phase 1 can be completed in 5-6 weeks. While this is our recommended pace due to the maximized momentum in growth that it provides, many of our clients take fewer hours per day and still make progress- but just over a longer period of time.

We do have some GPs who come to us already with some prior Hindi/Urdu experience. For these learners, we often send them this blog to do a quick and general self-evaluation of which phase might be best for them. We then have a brief call where we test out activities from different phases to determine what might be the best fit for this particular learner. We often end up recommending an accelerated Phase 1 individual course where the GP can skip over vocabulary sets and activities that they already know but spend more time on sets that they have not yet learned before moving on to Phase 2.

Which GPA phase did GPs reach through Launch India in 2024?

We are thrilled to help people meet their language goals - whatever they may be! But we also love to see people really thrive in living and building deep relationships in another language and culture and we see the magic of that happening when GPs get into Phase 4. This last year, 20% of our GPs made it into Phase 4! Phases 1-3 combined are a recommended 500 hours to complete. So again, at the recommended full time language learning pace of 20 hours/week (4 hours/day, 5 days/week), it generally takes 6 months of sessions to get to Phase 4. These earlier phases are where massive growth happens from knowing none to very little Hindi to being able to understand a native speaker speak on current events and their own life story. But these earlier phases are also just a crawl. It can be like drinking from a fire hydrant. Again, this is why we highly recommend sprinting through Phases 1-3 and getting quickly to Phase 4 where language learning becomes much more natural and enjoyable because of the foundation you have built by that point.

To learn more about all these phases, check out our blog on Why Use GPA to Learn Hindi Urdu?

Phases 5 and 6 are where you really start to focus on understanding the pace and slang that native speakers use when they speak with one another. We of course see massive value in continuing on into these advanced phases to increase the opportunities for deep engagement you can have in another language/culture! We offer a loyalty discount to GPs who have been with us 600 hours or more and increase that discount as you continue into higher and higher phases!

What ages were the GPs?

Most of the Launch India GPs in 2024 were in their 20s or 30s. Kids anywhere between ages 5-18 also comprise a large sector of our GPs. We have found that for every age group and for each individual there are different ways that the GPA sessions are customized to meet the unique needs of those learners. But the main point is- we love learners of all ages and yes- there is a space for you no matter how young or old you are!

What gender were GPs?

This approximate 60/40 breakdown from 2024 has been fairly consistent at least over the last several years of Launch India's GP client info. We just tend to have more female GPs. While a little searching online brings up some resources that discuss the potential that perhaps for various reasons, females are more naturally interested in learning language than males- we have seen highly motivated both male and female GPs over the years. We have many couples together sign up for our program as well as single females and single males. All are welcome!
